Thought for the Week...

Each and every day you may unknowingly be an inspiration to someone.  You are probably not the most successful person you know or the most productive.  You are not likely the highest achiever either but that doesn't change the fact that can make a positive impact on those around you as well as those you come into contact with.  While you may not view it this way, you may be underestimating your inspirational value to others.

Fort Sill National Cemetery Update

As most of you know, our Chapter has tried to find ways to support the cemetery for many years through programs such as Wreaths Across America and members assisting with flag implacement and recovery for selected holidays.  A significant number of our past members have their final resting place in this beautiful facility which we are so fortunate to have in our area.

Fort Sill National Cemetery was recently recognized with the Organization of Excellence Award by the Department of Veterans Affairs.  Only a select few cemeteries from across the nation receive this award.

On a related note, the cemetery is very dependent on volunteers to maintain its level of excellence.  The number of regular volunteers has dropped significantly in recent months.  We  have been informed that they would like to get another 10-15 volunteers.  If you are interested in the this important opportunity to serve then please contact Mr. John McNeil at 580-492-3200.  Office Hours are: Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Some other notes of possible interest in case you are unaware of expanded services now offered.  The cemetery has a Columbarium and offers families the option for cremated remains to be placed in-ground or in the columbarium. The cemetery also has a designated Scattering Garden for scattering ashes with eligibility to place a memorial marker in the Memorial Section.  Additionally, two more crypt facilities have been placed on site.
